Tweets From A Twat

Do you ever sit down and wonder why you exist on the internet?

I have. Just now.

Now, before I start, this isn't a call for help. No need to worry or shit like that. Just things are making me think. Like my grammar failing. Nearly said Just thinks our makeing me thing. Today is my fail day, it seems.

I have a multitude of social network accounts, though I only use two regularly: Twitter and Tumblr. I've given my reasons why I hardly use Facebook before, I think.

Anyway, I keep using them, but to what purpose?

Are they my way to vent to the world? To share my life with others who want to know more about me?

Or is it, in all honesty, an egotistical trip down confidence lane.

I don't know, it just made me think. I mean, I just use my accounts on certain websites, there's no motive behind what I do. Well, unless I promote the shit that I do. And no, I don't take photos of my shit and add it to some fecal-loving website.

The only exception to that is my Twitter account, where I actually add my thoughts to the world. But then I think about it, is it worth it?

That question is regarding both the thought I was about to tweet and the use of Twitter itself.

First, the thought of the tweet. Or any form of update, really.

Out of all the tweets/comments/ect that I was about to publish, about 97% of them are sent to limbo with the key combination of cmd + A and backspace. Why did I italicise them? Fuck knows.

A lot of the time, I write something and instantly delete it, before even posting the fucker. Is it because I believe that the update is not of worth? Is it because I think that it would make me look stupid or something? I don't know, my improbable reader. Maybe it's a combination of everything. Maybe it's an option from a selection that's not visible to the human eye. What the fuck am I saying.

But it does pose the question "what the fuck are you doing with your life?" when you have an app on your computer that feeds Twitter and Facebook onto your desktop all the time you're online. I mean, I have TweetDeck up all the time, mostly. That means that I'll possibly get tweets and status updates the moment they are set live. That's a bit... I don't know... odd.

It's, fuck. I really have no idea what I'm writing. I'm just doing the same sodding thing I always to in this situation - write inane bullshit and having trouble keeping my mind on things. Fuck.

Anyway, I'm not that egotistical in thinking that any update I do on the web is worth it. I don't upload a song onto my SoundCloud and instantly think this is going to get me so much pussy or anything like that. More often than not, I just update it to get opinions. I have no intention for things I do to "be good".

But do social networks just feed on our primal instincts? You know, the need to feel connected with others, the need to feel stable within this planet's ecosystem that is socialism.

Or, in my re-visiting into the world of shittery, am I just over thinking things to the maximum? That is probably the thing. Yeah, most definitely the thing.

But that doesn't really answer my first question. The first question where I pondered if my existence on the web was worth it. Well, in many ways, it answers itself. There's no inherit worth of having Facebook other than being part of the times, being like everyone else. You know, using Facebook or Twitter to keep up to date with everyone else.

But then I think, isn't it just destroying the said primal needs for us to stay connected? By pouring your life in a bucket of media?

Then I think, is this was some people thought when the telephone came around? Or even the written word?

Fuck, I need to get out more.

In other news, I hate this gap between Wednesday and Monday. I just need to do something to kill time between then.

Fuck, I hope that I fill out my time until September. With anything. Ah well, there goes my smile.

Land Of The Green And The Home Of The Sheep

Guess what?

No, not that. Guess again.

No, not that either. Would it be easier for me to just tell you what's what?

Okay then, on Friday I packed my bags and finally left home. To Anglesey. For a weekend. With Clic. Lovely.

It started on Friday. The sun was hidden by clouds, I wore jeans. The coach was what you'd expect from any coach. Though I was rather unsure at first why the driver decided to head back into Rhondda Cynon Taff after picking up our fellow residential dudes from Ebbw Vale and Newport. We had no idea that our journey would last longer than the estimated four hours.

Yes, the pesky sat nav decided to go the scenic route up to the little patch of Wales in the North. The chosen route was also a shroud of deceit on our phones, as for a good section of our journey we had no signal. So much so, that a girl called Jess Preddy and I began to improvise a song about retweeting, with the main lyric being "We need to retweet, why can't we retweet?" Aye, I'm sure we annoyed the living daylights out of our fellow travelers of the South with this song. Ah well, could be worse, we could have stalled a few times. Oh wait, we did.

Unfortunately, it was rather dark once we finally landed on Anglesey soil. So dark, in fact, that the coach driver didn't notice a sign post that said "no wide vehicles" until after we went down that street. Ah well, at least it gave the other members of the Wicid editorial team, along with Sam from theSprout, to sing about the bus travels up in Clic's Got Talent thing that was happening on Saturday night.. Lovely.

As the chickens sang their song in the morning, the day began with breakfast. Then, the young people of Wales were split into five groups. I, along with a few others, ended up in the first group, meaning that I have to sit through the accreditations workshop first, which was rather good. Then, we did the information introductions for Clic in video form in front of a green screen. Though, to be fair, I do think that some people were more interested in the large remote control that was discovered in one of the rooms. Like this one. Nice.

After a little break, the group made their way to banner making, though it was changed to kendo. There were a few matches between the people on the group, though I don't have a clue what possessed Jess to ask Geoff "can me and Gareth have a go?" Before we actually chowed down in bamboo warfare, I was unsure what to do. Though, as we commenced the battle, I wasn't going to let her win. Apparently, I'm really aggressive. Ah well, doesn't matter. All that matters is that I won, which led to this image being taken...

Yeah, that's me, doing a jumping attack on Jess' head. How hardcore am I?

Anyway, after a few handful of workshops, some breaks and another handful of workshops, we had Clic's Got Talent, where the name of it says it all.

There were only two different activities in the Clic's Got Talent - singing and dancing. As Sam, the Swoosh girls and others showed us what they've got in the dancing stakes, Paul from Defaid and others sang for the group. To be fair, everyone was well good, it was a relief when someone said that it was just for fun and not a competition.

After that, there was some sleeping done, as it was night by that time. The Sunday was the day of goodbyes, as we left homeward-bound at roughly half eleven in the morning. Again, it took us well over the estimated time for us to get home from Anglesey. We headed into England, further than I imagined. Ah well, the driver dropped the Wicid group at the stop well past seven in the night. Lovely.

As I charged my Mac in the comfort of my own room, I realised that I had an email. It was from Clic's sub-editor, Dan. All it said was "I've driven to Anglesey a few times before. It usually takes this long."

A quote by the bus driver before heading to the depot. Lovely.

So, on the whole, a good residential. Hopefully, there'll be more people from Rhondda Cynon Taff coming to the next one. Oh, and remind me to bring a guitar with me so then I can have a jam with Paul from Defaid. Nice.

- I did my time, and I want FIN.

Book/Face

For some bizarre reason, someone has decided to change their Facebook display picture to a cartoon from their childhood. The reasoning? To raise awareness of child abuse.

First things first, how does this raise awareness of child abuse? So, just because you changed your display image to Pikachu, does this mean a child in poverty has finally stopped "walking into doors"? No.

You may be reading this and think, fuck, Ga, it's for a good cause. Yes, it is for a good cause, but there are endless adverts by the NSPCC that has more of an impact on people than some people changing their display pictures to a cartoon character for two cocking days.

See, I don't understand these things. Since when was changing a display picture to something else, or changing your status to a chain-letter-like thing, will help in raising awareness of any charity? I thought, and forgive me if I'm wrong, that if you support a charity strongly, the least you can do is give the charity something. I know its an extreme train of thought, but surely that's a better way to support a charity than changing a display picture?

Though, on a lighter note, it has given me one of the best laughs I've had in a long white.

Many of these changes of display pictures are rather typical. The girls who love Disney changed their pictures to Disney princesses, while others who were fond of Saturday morning television changed their pictures to characters from programs like the gang from Recess or someone from Fairly Odd Parents.

While one person, who had the same thought as me about it being a pointless exercise, also changed their display picture.

But what to?

Well, to this...

Yes, she changed her display picture, to help raise awareness of child abuse to an image of Pedobear.

I laughed so hard at that. Best thing that happened today.

Right, I shall leave, before someone attacks me for accepting child abuse just because I didn't change my display picture. If you are said person, look at my current display picture on Facebook or Twitter. That is my reply to you.
